Ingredients:

1 cup water

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

1/2 cup sugar + 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instruction

  1. Prepare the Dough:

In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

Reduce the heat to low and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan (about 1–2 minutes).

  1. Cool the Dough:

Remove from heat and let the dough cool for 5 minutes.

Once slightly cooled, add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth and sticky.

  1. Heat the Oil:

In a deep skillet or pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Use enough oil to submerge the dough.

  1. Shape and Fry:

Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe 4-5 inch strips directly into the hot oil, cutting the dough with scissors.

Fry in small batches until golden brown (about 2–3 minutes per side).

  1. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar:

Remove the fried pastries and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

While still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.

  1. Serve:

Serve immediately with chocolate sauce, caramel, or simply enjoy them plain!

Enjoy your crispy, golden treats!
